Colonia Baseball Defeats Piscataway

The Colonia Boy’s baseball team defeats Piscataway with a score 6-2. The teams played at Colonia on Monday May 12th at 4 p.m. The game was the first round in the Middlesex county tournament.

Batting for Colonia was JT Desordi, Junior Vinnie Ferrentino, Senior Rocoo Ferrentino, sophomore Bryan Kopko the designated hitter, Senior Tyler Kovalewich, Junior Nick Margolin, Senior Eric Nielson, Junior Kyle Pietrapertosa, Senior Michael Wilson, and Senior Daniel Zalink.  Colonia’s batting average for the season is .333. The on base percentage is .400, and there slugging percentage is .464. The team’s record is 11-7.

Colonia began the game at a fast pace scoring there first run in the first inning of the game. Piscataway did not score their first run until the third inning right after between the 4th and the 5th inning Colonia scored 5 points making the game 6-1. Pitching for the game was Tyler Kovalewich who allowed two runs and Chris Growney who allowed no runs. They both acquired two strikeouts and had 10 hits between them.

Colonia Senior, Vinnie Ferrentino exited the game very excited to move into the next round of counties he said “I’m excited that as a senior we have a shot at going somewhere in the county tournament.” All of the players agree that they are ready for the game they were to play Tuesday against South Plainfield. Colonia had beaten South Plainfield once and lost the other time they played them so the game could go either way. Overall, the Colonia Boy’s played a good game and were able to produce their first win in the county tournament to continue on to the next round. Good luck to the boys in their state and county tournaments.

Gabriella Wilson, a senior at Colonia High School. She is 18 and prefers the nickname "Gabby."  She plays girls’ basketball for the school and enjoys reading and writing. Her favorite book is “Looking for Alaska” and her favorite TV show is “American Horror Story.” She loves to watch movies including the movies “Savages and The First Time.”  Wilson works for a shoe store in the mall and actually enjoys her job.  Next year she will be attending college and majoring in English.
